由于某个事件而遭到搜查一课流放的刑警须藤友三（渡部笃郎饰），被分配到“警视厅总务部总务课动植物管理组”虽然他留恋在现场办案的日子，渴望重返一线，但他也理解警察组织的规定，明白那非常困难。就在他开始考虑为年轻人让路，渐渐丧失了对办案的热情时，他与兽医系毕业的动物专家、新人警察圭子（桥本环奈饰）成为搭档。比起人类更爱动物的圭子，时常惹得须藤不知如何是好。但若遇上了事件，圭子会透过遗留在现场的宠物与自身丰富的知识、观察力进行推理。而在与圭子合作的过程中，须藤也重新燃起了对工作的热情。。The TARDIS lands in London on Christmas Eve, 1851 and almost immediately the Doctor hears his name being called.
